What if I have an urgent delivery?
Mail Services provides a Messenger Service for the delivery of urgent, official university messages and parcels to on- and off-campus department locations. The customer will pay for this service with a recharge card. The charge for delivery is based on pickup from one location and delivery to one location. Deliveries to multiple locations will be charged at the full rate for each delivery.
If your mailing is not an official university message or delivery, contact Mail Services to discuss expedited delivery options and costs.
-
Can I send mail to all local residents?
Yes! Mail Services can help you promote your upcoming event to the local community through USPS's Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) program. With EDDM, you can choose who gets your mailings, with additional filters for neighborhoods, age, income bracket or household size. Contact Mail Services today to learn more about how the program can help you reach a new audience!

How do I address mail to a student resident?
When sending mail to a UCR student resident, be sure to include the student's name, Campus Apartment/Resident Hall name, and their room number. Address all mail to the building's individual address, not the central campus address, to help expedite delivery. Mail Services will deliver your mail to your building's Resident Services Office, which will notify you when your mail is ready for pickup.

On-Campus Mail

Can I send out general campus flyers/box stuffers?
Yes! General distribution items, such as memos and flyers, that must reach all departments on campus do not need to be addressed individually. A sponsoring department must be named in each distribution, and the memo/flyer must be of "Official University Business" (i.e., no political advertising, personal statements of opinion, etc.).
The number of flyers required is determined by the audiences you are hoping to reach. We use a list of five categories to determine distribution:
A—All Campus
- Full campus distribution
- Requires 120 flyers
B—Students Only
- Distribution to housing, recreation, student organizations and other student-focused areas
- Requires 58 flyers
C—Faculty/Staff Only
- Distribution to faculty and staff locations
- Requires 71 flyers
D—Dining Location
- Distribution for posting at: Bytes, Glasgow, The Barn, The Den, The Market at Glen Mor and The Market at North District.
- Requires 6 flyers
E—Academic Schools
- Distribution to all academic colleges and schools
- Requires 25 flyers
If you have any questions or require a different distribution, please contact Mail Services for additional assistance.
-
How do I request a mail stop?
If your department requires a new or additional mail stop, you must make a formal request to Mail Services by filling out the form here. A Mail Services representative will review your request and contact you.
-
How often do you deliver to campus?
Mail Services collects and distributes domestic and interdepartmental mail twice daily. Mail delivery schedules are based on building locations, mail volume, vehicle pattern and U.S. Post Office schedules. Generally, interdepartmental mail collected in the morning will be delivered on afternoon routes the same day. All other campus mail, including all afternoon collections, will be delivered the following day.
-
How do I send mail to another department?
Generally, interdepartmental mail collected in the morning will be delivered on afternoon routes the same day. All afternoon collections will be delivered the following day. When sending interdepartmental mail through Campus Mail, use the following guidelines:
- Use the reusable intercampus 10" x 13" mailing envelope
- Completely cross out all other addresses on the envelope
- Write a correct and complete address for your recipient
- Clearly print the receiver's name and department
Note: Mail with an illegible address may be opened by Mail Service personnel for identification.

Shipping/Receiving
-
What are the cut-off times for shipping?
For express and overnight shipping, you must drop off your package at either the Highlander Service Station or Mail Services before 11 AM to have it sent out the same day.
For all other mailings, items dropped off before 3:30 PM will be sent out the same day.
-
My mail/package with a tracking number was delivered. Where is it?
Postal carriers will mark a package as delivered when it arrives at Mail Services. Please expect ~2 days for your parcel to be transported, processed and delivered to the on-campus centers. If you’re a student resident, you must wait until your RSO emails you to let you know your package is ready.
-
How do I address my medication?
Medication that is not critical, time-sensitive, or temperature-sensitive and does not require special treatment can be addressed as normal. (For help addressing packages, see our Shipping page. For critical/temperature-sensitive medication, we recommend sending the prescription to a local pharmacy for pickup.
-
Do you offer mailing discounts?
Yes! Through our vendor negotiations with FedEx, UPS and USPS, we are able to offer the Highlander community deep discounts on shipping, with savings of up to 50%! Please contact us or visit a location to learn more about how we can help you save.
-
Do you offer bulk mail services?
Yes! If you are sending more than 200 pieces of identical mail to the United States or Canada, you may qualify to send it as Bulk Mail, which can lead to a significant cost savings as compared to First Class mail.
There are a number of limitations and restrictions involved with Bulk Mail. Fortunately, the staff at Mail Services are experts, and we can assist you at every stage of the process.
To get started:
- Provide Mail Services with a mailing list (an Excel/Google Sheets spreadsheet is ideal) and what you’d like to mail.
- If your materials are designed with Auxiliary Design Services and/or printed through Digital Print Services, your items can be delivered directly to us for processing and mailing.
